Nam Il-Sung

Yoon Hyun-Sook
Abstract
The present study examined the interrelationship between depression and falls in Korean older adults. Using 2005-2009 data from the Hallym Aging Study, we analyzed a longitudinal cross-lagged model and a series of path models. We found a significant indirect effect of depression on falls through activities and a significant indirect effect of depression on falls through fear of falling and activities. We also found a significant indirect effect of falls on depression through fear of falling and activities. Given these results, a psychophysical approach could be a useful intervention to prevent depression and falls. We discuss the need to develop an exercise program for older adults who are prone to experience depression and falls.
